The Verstraete Collection: family memories
The Belgian family Verstraete lived from 1918 to 1960 in the Belgian Congo (now Democratic Republic of Congo), at the heart of its colonial history. Jean Verstraete narrates his memories from the period in his book "History of a former colonial". The artistic flair of the family for beautiful African art objects extends towards Asian art, a collecting tradition transmitted from father to son. Indeed, from the 20s onwards and until the 70s, they will collect masterpieces of Tibetan, Chinese and Japanese art...A collection that is as eclectic as it is exceptional!
