Jean Mayodon (1893-1967) Born in Sèvres, Jean Mayodon was a painter, interior decorator, and ceramist. He collaborated with architects, creating enormous ceramic murals and fountains. Indeed, some of his most readily recognized large-scale works were made for the ocean liner Normandie, itself an icon of Art Deco era design. Mayodon began showing ceramics in 1919 and participated in international exhibitions throughout his career. He created a grand array of vases, bowls, and plates, all relatively subdued in shape. Some were decorated after the antique, some featured mythogical sea creatures and nude females in the geometricized style associated with the 1920s ands '30s, and others depicting modern subjects such as Isadora Duncan in highly saturated colors, sometimes contrasted with black or gold
