Thomas Ruff : Born in 1958 in Zell am Harmersbach (Germany), Thomas Ruff is a german photographer who lives and works in Düsseldorf. He studied photography from 1977 to 1985 with Bernd and Hilla Becher at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and developed his photography method of conceptual photograph series. Ruff quotes Walker Evans, Eugène Atget, Karl Blossfeldt, Stephen Shore and William Eggleston as his principal artistic influences. From 2000 to 2005 he taught photography at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (taking back the Becher's chair). He realized many exhibitions especially in Germany (Kunsthalle Baden-Baden), Italy (Venice Biennale), the Netherlands (Chabot Museum, Rotterdam), Spain, Portugal (Casa de Serralves-Museu de Arte Contemporânea, Porto), UK (Tate Liverpool), South Corea (Busan Metropolitan Art Museum), Argentina (Fundacion Proa, Buenos Aires).
