Claude FRANCOIS - Exclusive autograph song

Claude François
Exclusive autograph song "The Little Clown" (1963)

1p ½ in-4 in red and black ink and pencil.
Angle carefully restored without affecting the text.

Unpublished text by singer Claude François from 1963 entitled "The Little Clown" adapted from the American song "See the Funny Little Clown" by Bobby Goldsboro. This song has not been licensed by the original publishers, it remained forgotten for more than fifty years.

First draft manuscript crossed out with additional words. It is interesting to see Claude François's process who distinguishes between the different stanzas in black and red ink. The last one was written in pencil: “red ribbons for your pretty golden hair. Isabelle. Remember… the sun was burning… Remember I loved you… Look at the funny little clown"
Claude François adds a reminder between quotation marks: (look for the record “See the funny little clown”. I will not marry you this spring, nor this summer, nor even ever because I am a peasant, (a man of the earth) for silver I have only the gold of the morning sun or the silver of the moonbeams to offer you…I could not offer you a diamond ring. I am tired
now… but by God, I am happy to have fulfilled my task here below. I'm tired now…of course life was great…but I'm tired now. Who slept in my bed, who cried on my pillow. I'll muffle my sobs in my pillow, bite my lip, but you will never know how much (how much) I am in pain. Early this morning, one early morning I'm going to get married next Monday, how old are you beautiful young girl… i will be sixteen, i will turn sixteen early next Monday morning."
