INFORMATIONS: Jean-Pascal Lorriaux was a passionate collector who had the idea of editing a selection of lithographs presenting the hands of great artists of his time. Hence Chagall, Picasso, Fautrier (of whom he was the assistant and close friend in the last years of his life), Fouita, Cocteau, Lurcat or Matthieu visied his workshop to engrave their hand on lithographic stone. Lorriaux would not have the time to finalise his project and only a few tryouts - including this rare lithograph, would be created...

Marc Chagall : (1887-1985) born Moïche Zakharovitch Chagalov, is a painter who was born on July the 7th in Liozna, in Bielorussia (then included in the Russian Empire), and naturalised french in 1937. He died on March 28th, 1985 in Saint-Paul de Vence. Chagall is one of the most famous foreign artists who settle in France in the XXth century, along with Pablo Picasso or Joan Miro. Even if his work is not associated to any movement or school, it bears characteristics of Surrealism and neo-primitivism. He also drew his inspiration from jewish tradition, the daily life of the shtetl (jewish village in Eastern Europe) and russian folklore, from which he elaborated his own symbolic. Chagall work with different medium, such as oil on canvas, sculpture, poetry, glass painting, enamels etc. Additionally to the worldwide presence of his works in the biggest collections, one museum is dedicated to him in Nice, and another one in Vitebsk.
Tsuguharu Foujita : Born in Tokyo in 1886, Tsugouharu Foujita or Tsuguharu Fujita is a complete artist (painter, draughtsman, engraver, illustrator, ceramicist, photographer, filmaker, fashion designer...) internationally recognized. When he arrived in Montparnasse in 1913, cubists compositions and The Douanier Rousseau's paintings from Picasso's workshop pushed him to join The modern art avant-garde. Foujita became one of the most important "École de Paris" members (coming out in 1918). He became friends with Modigliani, Pascin, Moïse Kisling, Chana Orloff, Soutine, Derain, Vlaminck, Fernand Léger, Juan Gris, Matisse... His first own exhibition in june 1917 is a success; he exhibits 110 watercolors in a half-japanese half-gothic style. He is presented in all the painting shows in Paris, Brussels, Germany, US and Japan. The 20's in Montparnasse were the climax of his career : His paintings representing women, children and cats enter the greatest art collections. In 1955, he obtained the french nationality. He converted to catholicism 4 years later and took the name Léonard. In 1964, he decided with René Lalou to build and decorate The Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix Chapel (Foujita Chapel) in Reims. Léonard Foujita died in 1968 in Zurich.
