Cameroon

From the Cameroon regions of Grasslands, in which the chieftaincies are surrounded by African art beadwork objects illustrating the wealth and prestige of royalty, this earthenware head is covered with thousands of multicolored pearls, arranged in lively contrasting colors. This royal art consists of masks, statues and prestigious objects to which pearls lend a certain lustre.

Located in the border region of Nigeria, the North West Province of Cameroon, Grassland is made up of several ethnic groups: Tikar, Anyang, Widekum, Chamba, Bamoun and Bamileke. Many centralized chiefdoms, or kingdoms, based on customary associations, secret societies, are organized around Fon which would have wide supernatural powers including trandorming into animals such as the python, elephant, leopard, or buffalo.

A religious leader, he is also a judge and warlord. His position, however, includes many obligations that he had
to fulfill in order not to be put to death.
