Couple sitting back to back for a ritual supplication. The heads volume amplified gives balance to the composition. The many marks of guilloche on the torso, the knees, ankles, arms and wrists are
typical to Dogon art.
Hard wood covered by a earthy paste.
The woman's left knee has disappeared formerly.
Bought in the south of Douentza, near Douma, north part of the cliff of Bandiagara.

Dogon : Dogon people live in Mali, more precisely on the Bandiagara cliff. The most valued pieces are statues and ritual masks worn during the "Sigui", a ritual danse organised every 60 years.
