MAGRITTE - Autograph signed letter on his standards as a painter

MAGRITTE René (1898 - 1967), Belgian painter

Autograph letter signed "RM" to his friend Andre Bosmans. Brussels, 23 September 1964; 1 page ½ in-8 ° on letterhead.
Magritte, as a perfectionist, does not hide his dissatisfaction with the reading of the new issue of the journal "Rhetoric" to his friend: "I just received your letter and copy of Rhetoric. Am I
mistaken? It seemed to me that you would have said "there would be a surprise" in this new Rh notebook? Lecomte's text should, I believe, have been printed in larger characters.
For me, it is difficult to read without a visual effort, which adds to the complication of reading unnecessarily complex writing styles. The title of this text is better for me than the content and I
think it would have been enough to express the pleasure felt by the collaboration of Lecomte in No. 12 Rh. I do not like the poem Jacqmin. (I do not remember the compilation he told me he sent and to
which I replied something kind a year or two ago?). I have not seen "Sunday eros". Your letter to Jacowsky seems to me to touch upon just what the kind of specialized minds can possess in terms of
heavy-handedness, which is taken for lightness (this one taken as the opposite to slowness of mind). I am accustomed, alas, to the "improvements" made to
paintings and objects that I painted. We add "original" stoppers, place an exotic plant in front of a painting, etc. quite innocently, not without excluding a certain pride of having a creative power
that is totally nonexistent. - Some beautiful days seem to announce themselves. You will benefit I hope from coming to Brussels earlier than last time - Competent people will have soon, no doubt,
repaired your car that you will leave, for the sake of convenience, at the railway station of Liège ... "

André Bosmans, Belgian poet, is a young admirer of the painter René Magritte, the two men become closer inhabited by precision in their respective art. They collaborate together in the magazine
"Rhétorique" of which Bosmans writes the texts and Magritte the illustrations.
