Paddy CARLTON, "BulloBullo River country", 1996, natural pigments on canvas

The work of Paddy Carlton (c.1968-2006) "BulloBullo River country" (110 x 70 cm) is an interesting witness to the influences of painting schools; their influence extends well beyond the communities
where they are installed.

Paddy Carlton lives today in Marima Wirrjininy Dawang in the region of Kununurra, (Kimberleys). It does not belong to the community of Warmun installed in the South in Turkey Creek, however we find
in this work strong signs of the Warmun style of painting.

Like the artists of this "school", Paddy Carlton attaches herself to the physical descruption of his land created by sacred ancestors; here it evokes a landscape from Bullo River on the black
background of the painting, the white river flowing between the ochre red and yellow hills.

The vibrant combination of natural pigments and the work on matter give this landscape an indeniable strength.

This work is the witness of the art of Paddy Cartlton whose works are featured today in great collections.
