Seen, Richard Mirando of his real name, was born in 1961 in the Bronx where he grew up. He now lives between Paris and New York. The graffiti movement is at this time in full emergence. Richard is
captivated by the painted subway trains that run along Line 6 or park in the Lexington Avenue depot. The garage of his uncle is leaning against this yard. He enters the depot on a Saturday afternoon
in 1973 and makes his first "play". He chooses the pseudo "Seen". He goes so far as to paint whole cars (Wholecars) that mark the spirit of New Yorkers. His father beats him regularly to punish him.
In 1982, the documentary film Style Wars by Tony Silver and Henry Chalfant make it an icon of the movement in the rest of the world. Nicknamed the Godfather of Graffiti, Seen in 1981, sits alongside
Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and Basquiat, at the "New York, New Wave" exhibition at PS1 in New York. Seen continues to exhibit alone or in groups with artists such as Banksy, Obey Giant.

Seen broke the world record for the most expensive graffiti canvas, Superman Who, 2009 at $ 96,000 on February 15, 20122,3,4. It dethrones the previous record held by JonOne in 2007, before being
overtaken by Kaws in 2015.
