Andrea MANTEGNA (Italy 1431-1506) - Rhetorica, etching c. 1470-1485

Andrea MANTEGNA (Italy 1431-1506)
plate that has been etched with acid.">Etching
Artwork from the so-called Mantegna "Tarocchi", or the "Didactic card" probably made between 1470 and 1485.
22 x 14,5 cm (8.7 x 5..7 inches)

The attribution to Mantegna is found exclusively in "the Lives" of Giorgio Vasari; it is likely that they were made by a Venetian painter or from Ferrara, for whom some critics have proposed the name
of Baccio Baldini. The fifty tables of this series are divided into five groups of ten cards each. The one proposed in this case is the rhetoric and belongs to the class C devoted to the liberal
arts, as indicated in the same work at the bottom. The mystery of these tarot cards have fascinated collectors for generations because of the interesting history that accompanies them.
This item is sold by a professional art dealer who guaranties its authenticity.
