Georges HUGNET - The man with two noses, Gouache signed

Georges Hugnet : (1906-1974) was a french poet, writer, playwright, graphist, and film director, born in Paris in 1906 and who died in Saint-Martin-de-Ré (Charente-Maritime) in 1974. Georges Hugnet was born to a bourgeoise family, and spent his childhood in Argentina. First historian of the Dada movement, whose studies were published from 1924 in magazines such as Cahiers d'Art and Minotaure, held André Breton's attention. He joined the surrealist group in 1932. He was excluded from it in 1939. Georges Hugnet continued his researches through black ink automatic decalcomania, a technique developped with his friend Oscar Dominguez, photomontages and photographic collages, newspaper cuttings etc. The pictural work of Georges Hugnet, largely present in the biggest museums and private collections in the world, is however secondary compared to his intrinsic poetic work. The german occupation interrupted his artistic activities: Georges Hugnet started fighting against the Vichy Regime. When Paris was liberated, Georges Hugnet could start again dedicating himself to his art.
