Screen print : Screen printing, also known as silkscreen, serigraphy, and serigraph printing - from latin "Sericum (silk) and greek "grapheion" (writing) - is a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an ink-blocking stencil to receive a desired image. The attached stencil forms open areas of mesh that transfer ink or other printable materials which can be pressed through the mesh as a sharp-edged image into a substrate. It is possible to use different meshes, for different colors, and create multi-colored works. In the field of art, it is important to know how many prints have been made. The total number of prints is usually written on the print (e.g 20/200).
Yaacov Agam : Yaacov Agam (1928-) is an Israeli pinter, a sculptor, a videographer and a visual artist. First of all, he studies the constructivism mouvment in Jerusalem, but also works as grapher in advertising agencies. At 23, he goes to France, and becomes a major figure of the kinetic art, a trend that mixes static and mobile. The mobile is either create by a motor in the piece of art, either by fortuity (thanks wind, water, or the movement around for exemple.) Agam likes work with people’s displacements, that create an uncontrollable and unpredictable aspect. He meets in Paris Fernand Léger, Auguste Herbin and André Breton, who named some Agam’s piece of work. Yaacov Agam paints, but also create sculptures, and builds facade of monuments. He exposes alone for the first time in 1953, and participates in 1955 to the first international kinetic art exhibition, which is worth its success, until 1970. The fact to trust in all the movements, is an important choice for the artist. He wants to depict the fourth dimension, unpredictable, invisble, yet sensible to our dimension. His works are often composed by several planes, on which depicts geometric color shapes, which produces one visual aspect with each movement. Agam as well works with sounds, and the technology in general, which brings him closer to the surrealisme.
